W5 Sherlock Holmes Negative Space Poster

I like this design because it is amazing poster for a movie because it is simple but effective. I enjoy the poster’s use of negative space as well as the typeface selection. I believe the target audience for this design to be possibly boys ages 15-25 who enjoy mystery books or movies. This is because Sherlock Holmes is character is involved in numerous media of the mystery genre. Also the poster feels more modern to appeal to a younger generation. It also uses a pipe and a strong, masculine typeface along with a red background portraying Sherlock Holmes. These things all point to more of a target towards male audiences. This poster is most likely for a movie. It incorporates the title below one of Sherlock Holmes’ most famous symbols which is a pipe. The pipe’s smoke leads into a negative space, silhouette design which portrays Sherlock Holmes’ face in his iconic hat. I could hypothesize that this design could be found as a poster for a movie incorporated into the advertising. This poster would especially be found on social media where it could be spread across the internet on sites like Pinterest or Instagram due to its unique and interesting design style that may be appealing to people who use this apps daily.
